Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, hath had compassion on thee. Marh 5:19Schools are back in session and that means teachers will be given assignments to the students to enhance their learning skills and broaden their educational horizons. One aspect of those assignments, which may not be so popular but is most important, is that of homework. Homework was not at the top of my 'things to do list' when I was a student. Well, it was, but I guess I ignored the list. This showed up in a negative way come test day too. I always felt better about going to class when I had my homework.
The greatest teacher of all time is Jesus Christ. The disciples called Him Master and He told them they had it right.
Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. John 13:13Jesus on the cross delivered us from sin. Jesus as teacher directs us on how to stay away from the sins He saved us from. The truth makes us free because the teacher is always right and always has our best interest in view. Jesus had His hands nailed to a cross so that we could live with Hi forever in Heaven, but He also provides a "hands on" educational format to invoke our vocational purpose here on Earth.
An elderly lady who had been struggling with dementia for years, to the point of not being able to recognize her own children, was asked by her daughter who Jesus Christ was. Her mother replied without hesitation, "Jesus is my Savior!" If that lady could say such great things about Jesus to her daughter, we should not miss an opportunity to tell others how much Jesus' salvation means to us, especially to those we love.
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12
Jesus Shows Us The Father
Every child longs to know their father. This is especially true for Christians. The Holy Spirit's amazing, miraculous, life-giving, quickening to a spiritually dead sinner results in the one on the receiving end having the traits of truth and being the likeness of his or her sovereign Holy Sire.
Eternal life is a gift which only Jesus Christ can give. And the whole package of our salvation is wrapped up in oneness with the Father including the greatest virtue of all -- to know Him as our Heavenly Father. There is no sadder situation than that of being homeless or an orphan. What we should be happy to share with anyone is the fact that because of Jesus we have a home in Heaven and we have been adopted and are surely children of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
But without Jesus Christ, none of us would know our father nor have a home in Heaven.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6There is a children's song that says, "If you're happy and you know it then your life will surely show it." Likewise, the child of God should show their happiness by claiming their rightful, yet undeserved inheritance through Jesus Christ. When we gather in Jesus' name for public worship we are saying we are glad that we have the pure privilege of sitting together in Heavenly places in Christ. In a way, the church is like our Father's house, and Jesus built it just to show us how wonderful our HeavenlyFather really is. How could we not share such love with others? Not only that, it's imperative for every believer to know the Father's will because that's exactly what we want to do. Not only are there many mansions in our Father's house in Heaven, there are many Bible verses read in the Father's house below, all telling us of our Father's will. Jesus not only shows us what the Father is like, He also shows us what the Father likes and dislikes through His word. All of us have an innate desire to please our Father. Christ Jesus shows us how and enables us to do so by His grace.
Jesus Sits For Us
Probably the greatest thing Jesus has done for us is finish the work of salvation. There is nothing for us to add, no incompletions to complete. He did it all! We know that Jesus finished the work on Calvary because He said so.
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, He said, 'It is finished': and He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost. John 19:30But not only do we know that Christ finished His work of salvation because He said so, He also implies that by the position He is in right now. Jesus sits on the right hand of the throne of God making intercession for us. What a blessing it is to have the one person who matters most to our Heavenly Father putting in a good word for us and praying for us all the time. Jesus is not sitting because He's tired or because He has completed one task and now operates from a whole different realm. His interceding from such a seat of authority sanctifies us. One day soon Jesus will leave that seat and come for His church. What a day that will be when our Jesus we will see!
Besides, good sitters are hard to find. Whether that is for our children or our aged or infirmed loved ones. Jesus though, will never leave us nor forsake us. He is the most dependable and competent sitter we could ever want. He comes right where we are and meets our every need. Since He is so faithful to sit by the Father's throne for us, we sure should have no hesitation to sit at His feet and hear His word. It is the best place to do our homework!
